How To Curl Short, Medium and Long Hair

Whether short hair is your signature look, or you’ve only recently got the chop, experimenting with different looks, styling tools and products can not only be tricky, it can also be intimidating. With less hair to work with, you might find it a bit of a struggle to get it right the first time you curl your hair.

Short Hair

While it can take a lot of trial and error to perfect that curl, you could quickly find yourself searching for ‘how to curl short hair’ tutorials on YouTube. So, without further ado, our Master Colorist, Gina, will take it from here!  

Products used

TIGI Dry Shampoo
Kerastase Laque Dentelle hairspray

  1. Start with a dry shampoo through your roots.
  2. Separate hair into sections.
  3. Curl sections of hair away from your face. Hold each curl for a couple of seconds, then release.
  4. Spray hairspray throughout your hair to hold your curls.

Medium Hair

If you’re a medium length hair kind of girl, then you would already know that this length is an absolute dream to both maintain and style. You’ve got enough locks to work with, but not too much to complicate which section goes where!

  1. To towel-dried hair, add volume to the roots with a lift spray.
  2. Blow dry.
  3. Curl sections of hair away from your face. Hold each curl for a couple of seconds, then release.
  4. Finish with a serum to add shine to your finished look.

Long Hair

While long hair is renowned for being a struggle to curl, it doesn’t have to be. Our long hair ladies can definitely leave the house turning heads with beautiful curls too! The key is to use the right products that give you the right texture.

  1. Start by applying a heat protectant to towel-dry hair.
  2. Marisa also uses a repair cream to nourish the ends.
  3. Blow-dry and separate into sections.
  4. Curl sections of hair away from your face. Hold each curl for a couple of seconds, then release.
  5. Finish with a serum to add shine to your ends.
